Lloyds commits to increase Black staff in senior roles

Lloyds Banking Group has announced plans to increase the number of Black staff in senior roles to 3% by 2025.

Its decision comes in the wake of global protests on the treatment of Black people

The bank reports that just 0.6% of its employees at senior levels are Black. The bank has a target of around 170 more hires to hit the 3% figure.

Lloyds revealed this new commitment to its staff last week. Alongside its new target, the bank is releasing an ethnicity pay gap report later this year.

The bank will include candidates from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) background for every executive director shortlist.

A new advisory board led by the bank’s current BAME employees has been set up. It’s goal is to “influence and inform” Lloyds’ ongoing diversity strategy.

Lloyds employs 40 Black members of staff across its more than 7,000 strong senior management … Read the rest

Report: Shareholder Rights Directive (SHRD) – the impact on securities processing

On 17 May 2017, the Directive (EU) 2017/828 of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 2007/36/EC as regards the encouragement of long-term shareholder engagement of exchange-listed companies in the European Union was issued – Shareholder Rights Directive II.

The minimum requirements for its implementation were laid down in the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/1212.

In Austria, the provisions regarding European law were mainly incorporated in the Stock Exchange Act 2018 and in the Austrian Stock Corporation Act, in Germany they were incorporated in the German Stock Corporation Law as part of the implementation act ARUG II. Therefore, different abbreviations can often be found in the industry’s language use, such as SHRD, SRD II, ARRL or ARUG II, but basically they all refer to the same thing or its national implementation.

The declared objective of the Shareholder Rights Directive II is to create an attractive environment for … Read the rest

COVID-19 analytics: the lesson for those involved in policy management

Contemporary government policy interventions are increasingly defined by data, indicators, and metrics.

Furthermore, data-driven ‘radical incrementalism’ methodologies devised by the now independent UK government Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) have been successfully used worldwide.

BIT’s usual process is to create several policy variants, test them, and then selecting the best option. This is a luxury that we can’t afford in a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yet what we can do is compare the progress and outcomes of different policies adopted by choices across different countries in the hope of learning to  improve the outcomes.

The following extract below from UK government coronavirus briefing slides is attempting to do just that.

But can you see what’s wrong with this picture? A close analysis reveals that it has a number of major flaws.

For a start, a consistent definition of ‘“COVID death’” across countries and throughout the analysis timeline is needed if … Read the rest
