What is Solids Control?

Management of waste through solids control is a process that entails the use of solid particles from rocks. Oil drilling has become a significant threat to the environment. In the drilling process, the rock cuttings are separated from the mud. The rising demand to reduce the negative impacts associated with oil drilling has led to the need for solid controls. Convenient removal of solids from mud in the drilling process dramatically reduces the volume of waste from oil drilling operations. An improvement in the drilled solids through good deep drilling lowers the waste of several oil barrels. Separating solids from the drilling mud makes it more suitable for recirculation into the system. Some of the equipment used in solids control are such as:

  • Mud tanks used in storage and mixing of drilling mud
  • Shale sharer to get rid of big sized solids
  • Desander for the removal of mid-sized solids
